This course is designed to develop globally competent professionals of "distance activity coordination" and networked collaboration, capable of performing under world-class standards in education, business, government and civil society (social, political and other non-governmental organizations). Its interdisciplinary competency-based curriculum was developed based on the premise that students enrolled will have diverse academic and professional backgrounds. The central theme of the program is a unique proprietary conceptual framework called DAC (Distance Activity Coordination) as a Global Competency.

DAC Global Competency includes various key skill and knowledge areas related to visioning and promotion, technology management, administration of human networked collaboration, and logistics, all placed within a global systems conceptual framework. Being able to perform under DAC standards will give you and your organization a platform for continuous improvement and a clear path towards global competitiveness.

DAC certification is a requirement for DAI (Distance Activity Instruction) and DACON (Distance Activity Consulting), which are second and third level competencies also crucial for globally competitive distance activity professionals.

  • DAC 101: Coordinator Manuals
    • Students are exposed right away to basic publications that form the theoretical foundation for this course. This includes a basic manual for Distance Activity Coordinator a guide for certification in this global competency, and the standards of competence that each student must acquire throughout this course.

  • DAC 102: Synergistic Networking and Synchronization
    • The so-called “era of exponentialism” and global networking have arrived in education, business, government and civil society. Organizations that do not align and synchronize to this new reality will continue to fall behind and eventually fail. Technology is now the main vehicle for human interaction and increasingly for productive collaboration in web chains. This is a new environment where decision-makers must enable their constituents to develop synergistic relationships where everyone gain and benefit while sharing and giving.


      The concept of entropy from thermodynamics is applicable here to the networked systems that are created by the new human/emotional (E), technology (T) and knowledge (K) dimensions and competencies created by these new associations. The new human/organizational systems benefit from new opportunities and innovation not possible through traditional growth strategies given that they are more fit to operate in complex and rapidly changing environments, entering not one but various phases of re-invention as needed by their specific competitive realities.


      This unique videoconference will address these and other important considerations emanating from this new world of relationships powered by the incredible pace of change of our global village.   • DAC 103: The New Economy Organization
    • The “new economy organization” is a concept rapidly becoming a reality in our increasingly technologically-based productive environment, which is highly dependent on e-resources, telecommunications and many complex tools for managing and synthesizing strategic information. This organizational model is truly a “new generation” model. That is, it is more productive, modern, agile, effective, flexible, visionary and multinational. It penetrates markets and attracts allies without regard to borders or traditional preferences.


      This important videoconference will present an update of this organizational phenomenon that is now impacting education, business and government. The invited speakers will review the key characteristics of this new model of productivity, particularly its global competitiveness. They will also propose steps we should all take in our organizations in order to keep pace with this challenge and to be able to take advantage of the opportunities that have been created by the recent world economic and business expansion. This has given birth to the new Fortune “e-50” list of companies, the NASDAQ “technology” stock exchange in New York, its expansion to Europe, and the growing global securities and exchange “electronic market”.

  • DAC 104: The B-B Generation
    • The so-called baby-boomer or B-B generation has lived a period of unprecedented change on a global scale, including the transition to a new century and millennium. This population, born after World War II (1945), is generally defined as the age groups between 35 and 55 years, and its older segment is about to enter the traditional work retirement age. Its profile is unequivocally adaptive, its high productivity potential unquestionable (having led the computer and information technology eras), and its consumption markets and preferences are diverse and multi-culturally biased. This is a generation in charge of the world’s productive establishment, driven mainly by an emerging “new economy” that has been created with new generation knowledge and powerful tools of great vision and global outreach.


      This strategic videoconference will discuss and analyze the impact of this incredibly challenged and yet successful generation on education, business and government. The highly recognized invited speaker will present statistics, demographic data and her own perspectives on the topic, stressing its importance for leaders, managers and professionals interested in maximizing the productive potential of this unique and strategic age group.

  • DAC 105: Sustainable Networks as Organic Systems: Strategies for Optimal Performance
    • The emergence of networks and associations powered by information and communications technologies is undoubtedly one of the most important phenomena of this century. The concepts of entropy and synergy from thermodynamics are applicable to human/organizational systems, which are the nodes that make up collaboration networks and value chains.


      Successful networks will be those that operate and generate significant benefits and value to its constituents and allies with consistency and sustainability. These characteristics and principles can be found in organic systems, such as the human body, where different component organs grow and function complementing rather than competing with each other, and where different specialties or roles are assigned to the very diverse nature of these components. Like organic systems, many networks will emerge and will succeed over an expected life-span and will evolve over one or more life cycles, but many others will fail and die ahead of their intended purpose.

  • DAC 106: Creating Achievable Visions with a Global Scope
    • There is no doubt that organizations today, regardless of their size and nature, must adopt realistic visions that have a global perspective if they want to survive the wave of intense world competition that is rapidly changing consumer preferences, and the sweeping technology-driven transformation of the way we do things. To be achievable, a vision must be the product of a systemic exercise that analyzes your current and future environment, your goals, and your resources (weaknesses and strengths), and also must be specific enough to serve as a framework for the continuous formulation and adaptation of action plans and decision-making.


      This strategic videoconference will review the concept of visioning and how to implement it in our challenging globalized environment. Values, commitment, empowerment and other key human dimensions of our productive endeavors can only surface and excel when the organization has a clear and feasible vision of where it wants to be in the future and what action plans this will mandate.   • DAC 107: New Generation E-Commerce and Services
    • The recent slump in market share prices of the many “dot.com” companies is rapidly defining chapter two of the evolution of e-commerce. It is now about doing everything at a distance faster, better and cheaper, and about creating networks or communities of users of services strategically and globally. The new e-services vision is that this modality will now become mandatory for organizations of every size and type, in education, business and government. It will not be confined to PCs only, to monolithic Web sites, or to those with expensive live-videoconference capabilities. Chapter one was about selling products; chapter two is now about developing value in the network environment of users you have created or connected.


      This important videoconference will review the recent evolutionary progress of commerce and services worldwide, presenting trends and forecasts of future growth and access. The invited speakers will analyze the impact and issues related to the emergence of a great array of Net-savvy devices that will soon facilitate voice and visual interaction and incorporate artificial intelligence into small-size devices such as telephones, pagers, cameras and other mobile units of the new world of “M” (mobile) commerce and services. This revolution will soon permeate government services in their attempt to become more efficient and responsive to the demands of the community they serve.

  • DAC 108: Collective Strategies for Organizational Change: Sustainable Networks and Critical Mass
    • A world of continuous change and discontinuity with intense global dynamics mandates that organization and communities adopt collective strategies that accelerate the transition to a new global mindset and sustainable networks of collaboration. Various studies and research have confirmed that new ideas and technologies can only propagate with their own inertia and merit in human-organizational systems when a “critical mass” of individuals adopts them. This “tipping point” or active energy generated by such critical mass is similar to organic systems, which provide a good analogy with organizations that operate in sustainable networked environments.


      This exciting videoconference will present these and other related concepts crucial to human-capital development and change strategies in education, business, government and civil society. The distinguished invited speaker will review the challenges of transforming traditional organizations to sustainable networked and value chain environments, the design of critical mass in workforce development programs, the risk and continuity issues involved, and the need for global competencies at all levels.

  • DAC 109: Excellence, Value and Quality Performance
    • The final measure of achievement for any organization is its capacity to generate client satisfaction. In the new global economy and markets the simplistic concept of product or service total quality is not enough. Client identification, retention, support and development are tasks that require today a broad framework of organizational commitment through adapting, learning and improving continuously. To achieve this today, organizations need to develop a new tri-dimensional competence supported by minimum emotional (or human), technological and knowledge (or expertise) standards. This “ETK” managerial competence is the new pillar for the pursuit of excellence, value and optimal quality performance.


      This important videoconference will present and discuss an innovative approach towards client satisfaction, providing an organizational framework and strategy to develop this capacity in any area of business, education or government.

  • DAC 110: Forum Participation
    • The Forum is an electronic board that facilitates the interaction via written dialogue with other students of this course, creating a community of shared learning. In this segment you are required to add to the Forum of this course one or more constructive reflections (criticisms are not allowed) in response to a message posted by another student or as a new message posted by you.

  • DAC 111: Distance Activity Coordination Competency Exam
    • The student must take and approve this test in order to advance to the Action Plan.

  • DAC 112: Action Plan DAC
    • Develop and report a DAC action plan per given instructions.

  • DAC 113: DAC Practical Project Report
    • Report on the experience and results of a practical (real) Distance Activity Coordination (DAC) initiative or project per given instructions.


      If a Credit grade is obtained, the student is recommended to obtain the DAC global competency certification
