Miguel A.Cardenas

Miguel A. Cardenas, Ph.D.

Miguel A. Cardenas, Ph.D. (www.miguelcardenas.com) is Founder and President of San Diego Global Knowledge University. Dr. Cardenas is a graduate of San Diego State University, where he obtained a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering “Summa Cum Laude". He later attended UCLA, having been distinguished with the “Chancellor's Teaching Fellowship,” a four-year award which represents the highest academic honor to an entering graduate student at the University of California system. There he completed a Master of Science degree in the field of Operations Research and a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering. During the seventies, Dr. Cardenas was a full-time faculty member of the prestigious Systems Engineering Department at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was co-chairman of the first-ever regionalized international global modeling project called “Mankind at the Turning Point,” sponsored by the Club de Rome. This famous global project was the first to coin and propose now widely recognized terms such as "globalization", "interdependence" and "organic growth". At that time he also published the first textbooks on systems engineering and applications in the Spanish language. From 1977 to 1983, Dr. Cardenas served as chief government administrator (Oficial Mayor de Gobierno) and Secretary of Education and Social Welfare for the State of Baja California, Mexico. Dr. Cardenas has written and collaborated on numerous books and articles dealing with systems analysis, global dynamics, human networked collaboration, educational technology, managerial leadership, sustainability, synchronization, green energy, and English language proficiency as a workskill, pioneering terms and concepts such as global competency, dual curriculum, distance activity, international managerial leadership, organizational synchronization, and ETK. He has presented seminars, workshops and courses on global themes for over 30 years, producing and delivering more than 180 of them via satellite, room-videconferencing,  and the Internet to audiences in all continents. He is a widely recognized innovator and global systems thinker. In October of 2009 he received an Honoris Causa Doctor Degree from Universidad Ricardo Palma in Lima, Peru, and in June of 2011 was named Special Adviser to Tianjin College of Commerce (TCC) in Tianjin, China.

Miguel A. Cardenas, Jr., Ph.D.

Dr. Cardenas, Jr. is Chief Academic Officer at SDGKU. His responsibilities include faculty and student academic review, acadmic assessment of programs and courses, as well as curricular planning and development. He holds a B.S. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Revelle College of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), an M.S. in International Management from San Diego Global Knowledge University, and a Ph.D. in Leadership with an emphasis in business, organizational psychology, and international relations from the Alliant School of Management and the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University. He has extensive experience in global systems education, program development, and is a specialist in international business approaches and techniques, particularly “organizational synchronization”, a unique systemic framework for sustainability and global competitiveness. His areas of social science research include solar power and technology transfer, the global soccer industry, and global leadership competencies. In the area of biochemical science, Dr. Cardenas has led research studies analyzing benign prostate hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) and the ocular and nasal trigeminal detection of pungency effects of volatile organic compounds (VOC's). Dr. Cardenas Jr. has a unique understanding of the different components of human behavior; from its most basic at the cellular and molecular levels (organic) to the more complex individual and group levels (organizations).

Joe Barrus

Joe Barrus is Chief Technology Officer at SDGKU. Mr. Barrus has more than 27 years of experience in technology development and innovation management including over 6 years within the higher education industry. In his prior role as the chief Enterprise Architect at a leading online for-profit higher education institution, he led a team of enterprise architects guiding the standardization and execution of technology strategy and innovative product development. In addition he developed and ran their corporate innovation management program which was instrumental in surfacing the most promising ideas for prioritized execution. Prior to that, Mr. Barrus served as Enterprise Architect for a floral and gifting e-commerce leader where he was responsible for architecting their patented e-commerce and logistics platform for optimized date-driven product delivery. Mr. Barrus holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University in Houston, TX and a Master of Science degree in Software Engineering from Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.

Ilian Rosales

Ilian Rosales, M.S. is Director of Administration and Registrar at SDGKU. Her functions include general administration, accounting, staffing, control and registration of materials, transcripts, admission eligibility, student enrollment, and bursar. She holds a bachelor's degree in administration from CETYS Universidad, in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, and earned a Master of Science Degree in International Management from SDGKU. Mrs. Rosales has a broad range of professional experience in administrative roles, educational and training support functions and tasks, as well as accounting practices. Mrs. Rosales also has earned a Global Competency Certification in International Managerial Leadership from SDGKU. Mrs. Rosales' functions are key to maintaining and growing alliances through the establishment of constant, efficient, and functional lines of communications between SDGKU and partner organizations.

Beatriz Escobedo

Beatriz Escobedo

Beatriz Escobedo, M.S. is Director of Student Services at SDGKU. Her functions include tracking/evaluating student progress, providing networked communication support to students, administering student performance and assessment activities and managing SDGKU's library resources. She is an experienced administrator and distance activity professional. In 2003, she earned her undergraduate degree in business administration from Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (UABC), in Tijuana, Mexico, and was the valedictorian of her class, having obtained the top grade point average amongst her peers. She later earned a Master of Science Degree in International Management and a global competency certification in International Managerial Leadership from SDGKU in 2008. Her past work experience includes management, training and education in the hospitality/tourism sector.

Gary Wallin, MBA, CISSP, GSEC, CCSP, CBI serves as Lead Project Manager for all SDGKU-related technology services. He is Chief Technology Officer at KWCG, a leading company headquartered in San Diego devoted to providing reliable technology consulting and network support to businesses that want to improve their productivity and reliability, including business intelligence, computer network services and cloud computing systems. KWCG is SDGKU's online technology managed services provider. Mr. Wallin has 20 years of experience in both high-tech and education environments, and specializes in technology migration/implementation, outsourcing, business consulting, project management, disaster recovery/business continuity and cracking tough nuts in the data center. At KWCG, he solves business challenges by providing an expert blend of consulting, technology and outsourcing.

George R. Gonzalez, J.D.

George R. Gonzalez, J.D.

Mr. George R. Gonzalez, J.D., is Legal Counsel and Agent for Process at SDGKU. He is the Principal at Gonzalez and Associate, a law firm in San Diego, California.  Mr. Gonzalez practices in the area of domestic and international business transactions and international trade. His firm provides counsel to foreign clients establishing business in the U.S. and to foreign and U.S. clients engaged in international business transactions, including joint ventures, establishing branch offices or subsidiary operations, sales, licenses, financing, foreign agency and related business relationships. Mr. Gonzalez represents companies in a wide variety of corporate and business affairs, including the drafting and negotiation of contracts for complex projects for the construction, and installation and operation of facilities for various applications related to the energy industry. Mr. Gonzalez received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972 and his Juris Doctor degree in 1976, both from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Peter Andersen

Peter Andersen, Ph.D.

Dr. Peter A. Andersen serves as the Chairman of the SDGKU Governing Board. He is a Professor Emeritus of the School of Communication, Past Associate Director of the International Center for Communications, and Past Director of Research for the Japan-U.S. Telecommunications Research Institute at San Diego State University. Professor Andersen is also President of the Western States Communication Association and former editor of the Western Journal of Communication. He has authored more than 50 journal articles, 30 book chapters and 100 convention papers. Recent books include The Handbook of Communication and Emotion and Nonverbal Communication: Forms and Functions. His research interests include nonverbal behavior, communication in close relationships, intercultural communication, and the impact of communication technology. His course in virtual reality has showcased his diverse interests in mass media, human consciousness, and interpersonal communication.

Tonya Parker-Jones

Tonya Parker-Jones

Tonya Parker-Jones serves as Chief Compliance Oficer at San Diego Global Knowledge University. She has ample experience in consulting, financial aid processing, on-site staffing and other customized services to colleges and universities (private, public, for-profit and non-profit) for improving their operations within regulatory compliance. She has responded to over 300 program reviews for more than 500 colleges in 34 states for well over 29 years.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts from California State Polytechnic – Pomona. Tonya works closely with the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting and State agencies to help institutions respond to program reviews and rebuild their operational infrastructure by developing and refining policies and procedures. After calling on Tonya to help address audit issues with the U. S. Department of Education, several institutions have significantly reduced the amount of liability incurred. In addition, the U.S. Department of Education has given Tonya a 100 percent accuracy rating on files submitted for "HCM2". Her expertise in regulatory compliance, financial aid, accreditation, and distance education is of great value to San Diego Global Knowledge University.

José Ramón Holguín

José Ramón Holguín Brito, Ph.D.

Dr. José Ramón Holguín, is SDGKU Director of Outreach Services for the Caribbean Region and Central America, charged with the promotion and marketing of SDGKU programs and courses in the education sector of this region, as well as in business, government and civil society. With residence in the Dominican Republic, Dr. Holguin has held important high level positions as rector and leader of national and international associations of higher education, science and technology, as consultant and adviser of multinational organizations such as the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Association of Latinamerican Political Consultants. His robust academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and theology and a doctorate in business administration.

Robert Thomas

Mr. Robert Thomas serves as Federal Business Director at SDGKU. Mr. Thomas has more than 25 years of experience working in production management and logistics selling discrete semiconductor parts to both commercial and government sectors. His professional background started in the newly developed Silicon Valley, a hub for technology-based firms. As Production Manager, he was responsible for scheduling production and on-time delivery of critical production material to several international accounts, gaining a strong understanding of global systems while operating under zero-defect quality initiatives. He implemented programs that increased efficiency using well-known Japanese production methods and earned numerous awards from Motorola, Texas Instruments and many others. At Sygma Company in 2008, he and a colleague developed important glass formulations that were critical to military electronics programs. In 2010, Mr. Thomas co-founded Antin Government Contracting Group in San Diego, California, and served as business analyst, and later, interim Chief Executive Officer.
